Non-Fiction

“Writing nonfiction is more like sculpture, a matter of shaping the research into the finished thing.”

  • Joan Didion

Desire and dedication, Passion and pain. The best stories are told by life itself. In my non-fiction writing, I find compelling stories in historical events and everyday adventure.

Travel Book: Cornwall and Devon (Picus Verlag, 2024, in German)

Fine sandy bays, steep coastal villages, mystical moorland landscapes. The South West of England is playful and rugged at the same time; you can get lost in remote landscapes and then suddenly find yourself in bustling, narrow alleyways. You can reach the devil’s cauldron and perhaps discover the Holy Grail. The endless sea, sometimes gurgling crystal clear, sometimes roaring violently, beckons and the fresh wind turns your head.

I have searched for the hidden in Devon and Cornwall: climbed through underground passages and mossy ravines, was on the trail of monstrous smugglers and famous detectives. I enjoyed the only truly English tea, visited an island that sometimes isn’t one at all and a manor house that became a movie star. None of this was possible without the right refreshments: steaming Cornish pasties and scones warm from the oven. And these lead to the obligatory question: how should cream tea be served: with clotted cream or jam first?

Historical Anecdotes: From Palais to Cafe (Metroverlag, 2016, in German)

It proves again: Size does not matter. For you need only 500 metres to become one, maybe even the most important street in Vienna.

Situated between Freyung and Michaelerplatz, nearly bordering the Imperial Palace, the Hofburg, the Viennese Herrengasse was home, work place and leisure time location for nobility, pioneers and discoverers. The founder of the emergency medical service lived here, the first secondary school for girls was opened here and the most prestigious authors met in one of its now famous cafés.

Their anecdotes and achievements are told in Von Palais zu Café. Glanz und Glorie der Wiener Herrrengasse, my first non-fiction book published in 2016 in the Viennese Metroverlag.
